Built in 1908 by the Vinton Co., this two-story commercial building originally housed the McNaughton-McKay Electric Co., led by Archibald McKay.
While its Classical Revival terra cotta facade remains intact above the first floor, the ground-floor storefront was transformed in 1935 by Simmons & Clark into a striking Art Deco design featuring black structural glass, aluminum accents and moderne typography. Simmons & Clark, founded in 1925 by Fred Foss Simmons, still operates out of the building today, now run by the family’s third generation.
The Art Deco woodwork, showcases, and mirrors have been beautifully restored, complemented by three modern chandeliers that feature Simmons and Clark advertisements from the 1930s–1950s, reflecting both the store’s history and the community’s life during that era.
