Historic Detroit

Every building in Detroit has a story — we're here to share it

Joseph F. Webber House

The house at 206 Eliot is historically significant as the home of Joseph F. Weber (1845–1935), a prominent Detroit lumberman and real estate speculator. Weber began his career in 1863 selling cord-wood to steamships on the Detroit River, later establishing a lumberyard and mill downtown before expanding his operations as the city grew. A building permit for the residence was issued on October 25, 1901, and construction was completed in 1903.
