Located at 1433–1435 Randolph Street, at the corner of East Centre Street in Detroit's Harmonie Park, this commercial building was designed by the prominent Detroit architectural firm of Spier & Rohns and constructed in 1898 for approximately $12,000. Charles Werner, proprietor of Charles Werner & Son Company, used the building for his business supplying crockery, china, and equipment for hotels and restaurants.
Originally a three-story red-brick structure, the building features round-arched windows on the end bays of the third floor and decorative molded brickwork, reflecting Romanesque influences. Its broad Chicago School-style windows provided generous natural light for the commercial interior.
In 1913, the building was expanded with a fourth-story addition, constructed by general contractor Otto Misch. The adjoining four-story building to the north was also built for Werner that year. In 1923, Charles H. Werner Jr. sold both properties to Werner Land Company. The building is part of the Madison-Harmonie Local Historic District, designated on May 16, 1988.
