Historic Detroit

Every building in Detroit has a story — we're here to share it

Alfred J. Fisher Mansion

This mansion at 1771 Balmoral Dr. north of West Seven Mile Road and west of Woodward Avenue, was built for Alma and Alfred J. Fisher (1892–1963), then one of the owners of the Fisher Body Co., a company that evolved one of the world's largest manufacturing companies.

According to an article in the Detroit News from Mar 10, 2022, "Mark Stewart, Stellantis NV’s chief operating officer in North America, and Antonio Gamez Galaz acquired the Fisher Mansion in the largest home sale in the city of Detroit for $4.9 million. They’re buying the Palmer Woods home from Dan Ammann, a former General Motors Co. executive and CEO of its autonomous vehicle company, Cruise LLC"

Daniel and Pernilla Ammann paid $1.549 million for the Fisher mansion in the summer of 2015, according to land records from Wayne County. The Ammanns also bought 2.1 acres (former site of the William A. Fisher Mansion) west of the mansion in 2017 for $225,000.
