Every building in Detroit has a story — we're here to share it

Alfred F. Wilcox House

The Alfred F. Wilcox House, located at 261 Edmund Place in Detroit’s Brush Park Historic District, was designed by the architectural firm Brush & Smith and built between 1875 and 1876. Originally constructed as a prominent private residence for attorney Alfred F. Wilcox, the house is a notable example of Victorian-era design, distinguished by its two-story octagonal tower and matching octagonal cupola, which give the structure a striking vertical emphasis and visual presence.

In the 1880s, the property became known as the John P. Fiske House, reflecting later ownership and occupancy. Situated within one of Detroit’s most architecturally significant neighborhoods, the house contributes to the rich historical fabric of Brush Park.
