Historic Detroit

Every building in Detroit has a story — we're here to share it

759 Virginia Park (Dr. Johnson B. Kennedy House)

The house at 759 Virginia Park Street was designed by George V. Pottle for Dr. Johnson B. Kennedy and built in 1912. The three-story brick residence is part of the Virginia Park Historic District and retains many of the architectural details characteristic of the neighborhood's early 20th-century homes. Its surviving historic interior features include original woodwork, cabinetry, a butler's pantry, and a distinctive Grueby-tiled fireplace and entrance.

Dr. Johnston B. Kennedy (1858–1927) was a prominent Detroit surgeon and civic leader. A nationally recognized surgeon, he was also active in Detroit's medical community and served as secretary of the Detroit Library Commission during the planning of the city's new Main Library.
