6001 Cass is a striking example of historic preservation through adaptive reuse. Originally built in 1920 and designed by renowned architect Albert Kahn as the Cadillac Sales and Service Building, the structure featured a grand second-floor showroom and embodied Detroit’s automotive golden age.

In the 1970s, Wayne State University repurposed the building for its Criminal Justice department, a use that continued for several decades. Following its vacancy, the building underwent a major transformation led by The Platform, restoring its architectural grandeur while modernizing it for contemporary use.

The Detroit News now occupies the second floor of the building, which in 2020 completed a $40 million rehabilitation of the structure. Engineering consulting firm Tata Technologies Inc. also is a tenant in the building.
