Historic Detroit

Detroit Boat Club

Today, it’s a crumbling landmark on Belle Isle, but the Detroit Boat Club is steeped in history.

Founded in 1839, the DBC is the oldest yachting/boating organization in the country and one of the 25 oldest in the world.

This building was dedicated on Aug. 4, 1902, and was the first entirely concrete structure in the country. This is the club’s third building; its previous homes burned down.

Sadly, the DBC abandoned its home in 1996. Today, it’s used by only crew teams and needs millions in work.

More on this building of Detroit coming soon.
